Gone are the days of bulky, and often quite dangerous electric blankets made only for beds. We are well and truly into the next generation of safe, efficient, and versatile, heated throws and blankets.
Heated throws are ideal for keeping out the chill in a drafty house, especially if like me, you really feel the cold but they are also wonderful for just the sheer pleasure of snuggling up and relaxing with a cozy warm blanket on the sofa.
If you are looking for a low budget option that still looks good and performs as well as the top of the range in heated throws, The Dreamland Relaxwell Heated Throw may just be what you need.
Made from a cozy, soft, chocolate brown, 100% polyester velvet fleece, the Dreamland Relaxwell Heated Throw not only looks good but it feels super soft and comfortable too.
At 150 x 90 cm The Dreamland Relaxwell Heated Throw Blanket is not too big and bulky – you could say it’s you sized rather than sofa or bed sized, so it won’t swamp your whole lounge when you snuggle up with a good book or your favorite movie. It’s size also makes it perfect to keep you warm if, like me, you sit at a desk and work from home. The photo below left shows the control unit on my (gray) throw, which is perfect to keep me cozy, relaxed and warm while I work.
It has six different heat settings including a ‘Ready to Relax’ pre-heat button that will heat the blanket in only 5 minutes to its hottest setting. You can then choose your preferred heat setting from no.1 to no.5. Choose setting no. 5 and the throw will feel very warm. I would describe it as maybe “hot water bottle warm” but the blanket will still feel comfortable, not burning hot. The lowest setting, no. 1 is a mild and gentle warmth, suitable if you’re not too cold or just want to get the snuggle factor. If you change the setting from a higher to a lower temperature or if you turn the blanket off, the heat will quickly disperse and the throw will cool down within a few seconds. It also features a 1 or 9-hour auto shut-off timer for peace of mind.
The control unit has a LED display so you can change your heat or time settings in darkness- handy if you are watching a movie and don’t want to annoy your family by having to switch a light on to see what you are doing. Another great feature of The Dreamland Relaxwell Heated Throw is that it has a firm on-off switch at the back of the control unit, preventing the unit from unintentionally being switched on if the control buttons on the other side are accidentally knocked.
Whichever your preferred setting, The Dreamland Relaxwell Heated Throw Blanket uses Intelliheat Technology. This not only allows the blanket to heat up so quickly via your ‘Ready to Relax’ pre-heat button but it also automatically adjusts to external and ambient temperature changes, providing you with the same level of comfort throughout each use.
The throw is safe, efficient, and at a cost from around just 1pence per seven-hour use, is very cheap to run – potentially saving you a lot of money on your heating bill.
The throw is beautifully made, all the seams are neatly finished and it will fit in with the most stylish of surroundings. Because there is no obvious stiffness and the cable is easily detachable, you could throw it over the arm of a chair and you would never know it’s not just a soft throw.
The amazing thing about these heated throws though is that they are machine washable at 40 degrees and are tumble dryer safe. You simply detach the control unit and the place the blanket into the washing machine. During the dying process, you must just remember to stretch it back to its original shape ensuring no heating wires have looped back on themselves.
The cable is a good length too at approximately 10 feet from the control to the plug and about 2 feet from the control to the blanket. If you need an exact measurement just leave me a comment below and I’ll go hunt my big tape measure down.
The Dreamland Relaxwell Heated Throw is an all round winner for me, it’s hard to think of anything negative to say about it but if there are any downsides I would say the heating wires don’t go all the way to the edge on the throw. At one end they end 8″ before the edge. The other 3 sides start 4″ in, so the edges of the throw will obviously feel cooler than the center. The throw should never be used for any child under three but children ages between three and eight may use the blanket fully supervised. The throw is suitable for ages eight and above, however, the hottest setting does get hot and for that reason, I wouldn’t want my eight-year-old, if I had one, to use the throw unsupervised in case, for example, they fell asleep on the throw – especially if, due to its snuggle factor it became crumpled.
If on the other hand, you are an older child or an adult and you live in a house that is a little on the drafty side, this heated throw is a real gem. Especially if you live with a human polar bear who apparently is impervious to the cold and keeps insisting that the heating is on too high! It is also the perfect choice if you want a heated throw but you don’t want to spend too much money on one or if you are keen to save a little on those hefty energy bills. Ironically you can actually save money by buying one even though it feels like a luxury to use one.
Dreamland even offer you a 2-year guarantee!
Dreamland does have other options in their range which I will be taking a look at. They do cost a little more than this model, if you would like more information on what else Dreamland has to offer, click here for more reviews.
If on the other hand, you think this is the perfect choice for you, I can’t recommend this throw highly enough in terms of quality, efficiency and looks.
